Duet PDF Reader

Privacy Policy

Effective 4 November 2026 · Last updated 4 November 2026

Duet PDF Reader (“Duet”) is a PDF reader and thinking Canvas for iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo. We built it to be private by design.

You don’t create an account, and you don’t sign in. We don’t collect your documents, highlights, notes, photos, voice recordings or AI questions. Everything you make in Duet is stored on your device. We have no servers that store your content, and we have no way to see what you read.

Two things leave your device. When you ask Duet’s AI something, it uses Apple’s Private Cloud Compute by default, so the relevant parts of your document and your question go to Apple to be answered (see AI features below). And purchase information: Duet is free to download, and Duet Pro is an optional in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment. RevenueCat, the service we use to check purchases, keeps a pseudonymous purchase record so Duet knows whether to unlock Pro and can restore it on your other devices. It never receives your documents or anything you create.

No ads. No tracking across apps. Nothing sold to anyone.

Who we are

Duet is published by Stackr Labs Incorporated (“we”, “us”), trading as Conscious Engines Studio. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

What stays on your device

Your work lives in Duet’s storage on your iPhone or iPad:

  • PDFs you import
  • Highlights, clips, Canvas cards, sticky notes, shapes, arrows, tables and ink
  • Photos you add to a Canvas
  • Voice notes you record, and their text transcripts
  • AI answers you pin to your Canvas, and your reading position
  • Your theme choice and app settings
  • A private search index that helps Duet find passages in your documents

We don’t sync this data to any server we run, and none of it is sent to RevenueCat. If you use iCloud or device backups, Apple may include Duet’s data in those backups under Apple’s own privacy terms. If you delete Duet without a backup, your data can’t be recovered, because we never had a copy.

AI features

Duet’s AI is powered by Apple Intelligence:

  • Private Cloud Compute (the default). Duet sends your AI questions to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, which needs an internet connection. The relevant parts of your document and your question are sent there. Apple uses that data only to fulfil the request and doesn’t store it. It isn’t accessible to Apple or to us. We don’t run any AI servers and we don’t use any third-party AI provider.
  • On device (if you choose it). If you choose On-Device under Assistant Model in Settings, Apple Foundation Models run entirely on your iPhone or iPad. Your document and questions never leave the device, and this works without an internet connection.

In both modes, we never receive your documents, your questions or the AI’s answers.

Duet Pro and purchases

Duet is free to download. Duet Pro is an optional, one-time in-app purchase. It isn’t a subscription.

Apple. Apple processes every purchase through your App Store account. We never receive your name, Apple Account email, card details or billing address. Apple’s privacy policy covers how Apple handles your payment.

RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) to confirm whether you own Duet Pro and to restore it on your other devices. RevenueCat starts when Duet opens, even if you never buy anything, because Duet asks it which features to unlock. RevenueCat may process:

  • a random App User ID that Duet creates. It isn’t your name or email, but it does identify one purchase record, so it is pseudonymous rather than anonymous.
  • App Store receipt and transaction details, such as the product, price, currency, purchase date and any refund
  • when the app was first and last opened
  • device model, operating system, app version, language, App Store country and currency
  • technical request data, such as IP address, needed to run and secure the service

RevenueCat doesn’t receive your documents, highlights, notes, photos, voice notes, AI questions or answers.

RevenueCat processes this information on our behalf, as our service provider, and only to provide its service to us. It stores the information with Amazon Web Services in the United States. We can see purchase reports and individual pseudonymous purchase records in RevenueCat’s dashboard. We don’t use this information for advertising and we don’t sell it. RevenueCat’s privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Why we use it. We process purchase information to provide what you bought (performance of a contract), and to prevent fraud and understand how Duet Pro sells (our legitimate interests).

International transfers

RevenueCat stores purchase information in the United States. If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another region with transfer rules, that information is transferred under safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Email us for details of these safeguards.

What we never ask for

We don’t ask for your name, email, phone number, location or contacts. Duet asks for your photos only when you choose to add one to a Canvas. We don’t use advertising identifiers or advertising SDKs, we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we use RevenueCat only for purchases.

Permissions

  • Files. Duet opens only the PDFs you choose to import or share into it.
  • Photos. Duet uses your photo library only when you add a photo to a Canvas. The photos you pick are copied into Duet’s storage on your device. Duet doesn’t upload them, and it doesn’t read or scan the rest of your library.
  • Microphone. Duet uses the microphone only when you record a voice note. Recordings are saved on your device.
  • Speech recognition. Voice notes are turned into text on your device by Apple’s speech recognition, so you can search them. The audio and the text stay on your device.

You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.

Widgets

Duet’s widgets (Continue Reading, Recents and Latest Highlights) come with Duet Pro. They read data stored on your device to show it on your Home Screen, and they don’t transmit anything. Anyone who can see your Home Screen can see what a widget shows, so remove a widget if a document is confidential.

Crash reports

If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They contain technical information, such as the device model and iOS version, and none of your content. You can turn this off at any time in iOS Settings.

Support

If you email us, we receive what you choose to send, such as your email address and message. We use it only to reply to you and delete it once your request is resolved.

Children

Duet is suitable for all ages. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. The only information processed for anyone is the pseudonymous purchase record described above, which in-app purchases need in order to work. Purchases by children are controlled by Apple’s Family Sharing and Ask to Buy settings.

Retention

  • Your content stays on your device until you delete it. We never hold a copy.
  • RevenueCat purchase records are kept while Duet Pro is active for you, and afterwards for as long as we need them for accounting, tax, fraud prevention or legal obligations. We delete them sooner if you ask and the law allows.
  • Apple keeps its own purchase records under Apple’s policies.
  • Support emails are deleted once your request is resolved.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, California law or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your personal data, and to complain to a data-protection authority.

  • Your content is stored only on your device, so you control it directly: remove documents inside Duet, or delete the app to remove everything.
  • Your purchase record is held by RevenueCat on our behalf. To access or delete it, email deepanshi@consciousengines.com with the order ID from Apple’s receipt email, so we can find the right record. We reply within 30 days. Deleting the record doesn’t cancel your purchase: you can restore Duet Pro from the App Store later.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date. If we make a material change, such as starting to collect a new kind of data, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
